It took many years of convincing by my wife to buy a Dyson Vacuum cleaner and was it worth it? Not really. Yes they look impressive they work just as well as any other cleaner but generally they are double the price. Value for money? I think not. Good marketing? Yes.

Will she convince me to spend $699 on the Dyson Hairdryer? Well now we are in my territory and I have this little comparison to put forward my case.

The $699 Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer.

At first I was a little sceptical about the Dyson Dryer but on first inspection I was quite impressed. It felt nice in my hands and it is very light. It comes in a nice box, a little like the box you get with an Apple laptop. Inside the box you get two nozzle’s, a storage hanger, heat mat and a diffuser, which click securely on and off. It also comes with a two-year warranty. If you want to know about all the new technology in it you can go to their website and check it out here.

It has three heat settings and three-speed settings, as well as a cold button. The airflow is impressive for the size, but could we use it in the salon? Not yet. It is nowhere near powerful enough at this stage. The other down fall is that it only has a one-meter cord. The Parlux and most other salon dryers have a three-meter cord.

In my opinion it would suit people who had fine to medium textured hair that was reasonably short in length. Any longer or thicker I think it will struggle. Value for money? A definite NO. It is seriously over priced for what you get. Ten times more over priced than the vacuum cleaner as impressive as it might be with all its new technology.

The $165 Parlux 3200

Ok anyone who knows anything about hairdryers knows the Parlux. It is by far the most commonly used hairdryer in the hair industry. Ask anyone who has owned one or used one?

It is reasonably light, powerful and reliable. We use them day in day out in the salon. I think I have been using a Parlux of some sort for the last 20 years. In that time they have become lighter and more powerful.

Not everyone needs a very powerful dryer and it can adapt with its three speed settings. It also has 3 heat settings and a cold button. It comes in a nice box, it’s design may be not as Apple-ish as the Dyson, and has two nossle’s.

Value for money is a definite big tick here. It’s a proven performer at a very reasonable price for the quality.

Conclusion

In conclusion if you want to be seen to have the latest then the Dyson is for you, however if you want reliability performance and value for money then the Parlux wins hands down.
