Fashions come and go, they go around in circles and the braid has really stood the test of time. When I started my apprenticeship in the mid eighties we were doing lots of braids. Not long after that it was a style that you would only see on young girls in school play grounds.
However today they have made a huge resurgence. Celebs seem to have embraced the braid in a big way. We are also doing a lot more of them in the salon. Bec who is the braiding expert at Hair by Phd has put together a collage of braids for our clients to choose from.
Braids are very versatile; they can be worn by young girls to school, for dancing and other performing arts, casual social functions, and every day wear to the most formal of occasions. Braids can be made to look very pretty and feminine, also very chic and sophisticated.
Braiding is widely used by different cultures as well. Africa would be the continent which really comes to mind. With the migration of a lot of African people into Australia and a lot of them settling in western Sydney, there are some awesome braided hairstyles to be seen on the streets. We are also seeing a lot of salons opening which are run by Africans specialising in African style braiding. This is another wonderful aspect of this interesting mixing pot of different cultures we live in.
So if you are after any advice on what braids can work for you for the next big occasion come on in and see Bec and the girls at Hair by Phd. p.96354721. e. info@hairbyphd.com.au
