Weird, out-there, crazy are some of the words you here to describe haircuts that are very high fashion. The only places you normally see this kind of style is in a hair show or being worn by a hairdresser. You will also see these haircuts on some Sydney streets. Why, I hear you ask, would anyone want to do this to his or her hair? Why not I say, it’s what makes us individuals and interesting.
Fashion always starts out to be a bit out there, and there have been many times in my career where I have travelled overseas, gone to a hair show or these days just checked out styles on the internet and said to myself this look is a definite no go, only to be proven wrong. Extreme styles in hair, like in clothing, always seem to filter down into everyday fashion eventually.
When I was in London in 2011, I attended the Sassoon Hairdressing Academy. This is something I try to do whenever I go to London. Anyway, they were demonstrating some men’s styles and out came this guy with a beard and a comb over. It was done a little better than the average comb over, but I said to myself I don’t think beards will come back into fashion. Have a guess who has been wearing a beard for the last two years? And they are everywhere. Men’s hair today is very tailored, short back and sides with a very prominent part. Beards are massive. Who would have thought, after having textured messy hair in fashion for so many years? That era started with grunge.
Last week I was lucky enough to create an awesome high fashion hair style on one of our apprentices Zoe (pictured). This haircut was very much inspired by a Sassoon’s look. I have attached some looks above that are created by Sassoon’s so you can see what I mean. These styles are not for everyone but you have to admire how well crafted they are. I know they inspire me to be creative.
Fashion in general is a lot of fun to follow. It shapes how we look and feel and how we are perceived. I know it makes our job always interesting because of how it is constantly changing.
I have also included a few images from Hair Expo which is held on the June long weekend. A lot of these looks are not something we do a lot of in the salon but they inspire us as stylists to bring to you new and fresh ideas. You will see how, at a later date, these looks will filter into everyday wearable fashion – you heard it here first!
If you have been inspired to make a more extreme change in your hair, please contact either of our salons at Parramatta or Carlingford, we are happy to be at your service.
