As mentioned in my last post I recently caught up with the amazing colourist Damien Rayner. Damien was voted one of the top 15 colourists in 2012 by Harper’s Bazaar and we have been lucky enough to have Damien as an educator in our salon since 2010.

I recently sat down and had a chat with colourist extraordinaire Damien Rayner. We are organising to have Damien in our salon very shortly to do some more colour training with the team and the subject of Balayage came up. I’ve been hairdressing for over 30 years now and Balayage would have to be the longest lasting colour look in that time.
After a long hot summer it’s been a nice change to get some cooler weather. I drove down to Thredbo over the Easter break and for those of you who have never been to the snowy’s in winter or any other time of the year it is a must do.
Hands up – who would like to have their own personal hairdresser?
Yes, that’s head massages anytime you like, someone to style your hair multiple times a week and all other the hair services you can imagine. Nice to dream? No need to dream any longer. Hair by Phd Opulence membership is here. Your friends will be green with envy!
Weddings are one of the most intense experiences for any one person, let alone one couple. The question has been asked, the answer was a resounding YES! With that YES your life is about to change forever. There will be stresses, family politics, where are we going to live, shared bank accounts and we haven’t event gotten to organising the wedding yet!
Chatting to Bec the other day, Director at our Carlingford salon who recently got engaged, I shake my head when I hear from her all that has changed in her life since getting engaged. Is it worth all the hassle? Yes it is!
It was way back in 1990 when I bought my first salon in Hurstville, that I was introduced to a product called Kerastase. Kerastase products have been around since 1964 and really are the pinnacle of all hair products. They stand for quality, luxury and beautiful hair.

Holidays are over and we are now well into February. Scary how time goes by so quickly. Three weeks ago I was in the USA skiing in sub zero temperatures, hard to imagine being in that cold now with the heat wave we have been having. Summer can really take its toll on our hair – let alone our children’s hair. We tend to make sure we are looking after our hair by using good products to maintain our luscious locks, but are we doing the same for our children?
It’s been an amazing year at Hair by Phd. We have achieved so much between the two salons and it’s great to be able to give to our team members and see them grow and develop so much.

When I started hairdressing back in the mid 80’s all we did all day every day was perm hair. Big curly hair was all the rage. Into the mid 90’s and 2000’s all we did was iron the hell out of hair to get it as straight as possible. Ceramic irons, Japanese Permanent Straightening and then a little later Keratin straightening became very popular.
It took many years of convincing by my wife to buy a Dyson Vacuum cleaner and was it worth it? Not really. Yes they look impressive they work just as well as any other cleaner but generally they are double the price. Value for money? I think not. Good marketing? Yes.
Will she convince me to spend $699 on the Dyson Hairdryer? Well now we are in my territory and I have this little comparison to put forward my case.
